Count Kinsky, also known as Count Franz Joseph von Kinsky (1739-1805), was a prominent Austrian nobleman and military commander during the 18th century. He came from a well-respected family with a long history of military service, and served in the Austrian army during the Seven Years' War and later in the Austro-Turkish War.
In addition to his military career, Count Kinsky was also a noted patron of the arts and a collector of paintings and sculpture. He amassed a large collection of works by artists such as Tiepolo, Canaletto, and Van Dyck, which are now housed in the Kinsky Palace in Prague.
Count Kinsky's descendants continued to play important roles in Austrian society, with several members of the family serving as high-ranking military officers, politicians, and diplomats. Today, the Count Kinsky line has been absorbed into the broader Schwarzenberg family, another prominent noble family with a history dating back many centuries.
